A Quiet Life
A Quiet Life follows Fen Jones, a twenty-six-year-old telepath and self-proclaimed cynic, who is pulled into an underground immigrant rebellion after failing to read the mind of its impulsive right-hand man, Jack Miller.
Set in an alternate 1990s Britain where a rising politician hides illicit crimes against minorities, the novel explores the themes of identity, empathy, and betrayal. Fen must confront his own privilege, and he learns that inaction makes him just as complicit as those in power.
The inspiration for the story came from my own disillusionment with modern society’s lack of understanding towards others, but also because of my love for novels that promote change in societal perspectives – such as BABEL by R. F. Kuang.
